The party starts when Thorny appears – he brings the heat and unleashes the fun. From tropical Queensland across the sweltering Outback to the hot sands of Western Australia, Thorny gives Australians a fiery spirit to call their own.
With his crazy appearance and unique lifestyle, Thorny packs an attituded that exemplifies so many things that make Australia different. With Thorny Devil we’ve taken those qualities and put them in a bottle.

- Just like us, the thorny devil is native to Australia and is built for heat. He thrives in a harsh environment.
- Oh, that spiky skin makes him hard to swallow. (Luckily, with our Bond 7 whisky, Devil’s Tongue goes down a treat!)
- He’s a mover. Thorny devils have been clocked at up to 60km/h.
- He’s a groover. In spite of that speed, when Thorny feels threatened, he’ll freeze on the spot, then slowly start to rock in a mesmeric dance that confuses predators.
- It’s decadence all the way. A thorny devil can eat 3000 ants easily in one sitting. They know what it feels like to have a mouth on fire. Luckily, with our Bond 7 whisky, Devil’s Tongue goes down a treat.
- Thorny devils know how to be cool. Thorny might have a wild appearance, but he’s placid most of the time. Plus, he cools off by drinking through his skin as micro channels between the scales channel water to his mouth.
- This lizard is a classic! His scientific name – moloch horridus – comes from an ancient god of sacrifice that appears in Milton’s poem Paradise Lost.
